DJ Beta

It seems Spotify has adopted a different approach to selecting music, of course, with Artificial Intelligence (AI). This new feature, called DJ Beta, is like your new “radio host”. Launched in February 2023, this AI knows all the genres we usually listen to, so this segment is dedicated to your top repeated songs, which is somewhat disappointing. Why? Because DJ Beta should introduce us to artists similar to the ones we are listening to.
This feature started as a limited offering in the USA and Canada, and was later expanded to over 50 countries. Users can check it in the Spotify app by searching for "DJ Beta" or finding it in the “Made for You” section. Additionally, the feature can be customized with voice requests.
The big question is, how long do we have to wait for this DJ Beta to make a real selection of random music/artists? I mean, it shouldn’t be hard to pre-select artists from the same continent or genre. In my experience, what I have heard is my playlist of Liked songs, which is disappointing.
Perhaps in the future, it will provide us with a better, genuine experience, much like a real radio host. But when I think about it, I feel a little bit sad. Radio shows have been among my favorite media distractions since I was a kid, so given that we are going to have a robot talking to us, I think we can go back to Alexa or Siri.
Should this preoccupy real radio hosts? I don’t know, maybe in the future. But listening to a good radio show should always be cherished. Do you agree?
